National Cruise Vacation Month With VISA

February 1996 is National Cruise Vacation Month. And as the cruise industry gets ready for the year’s biggest promotion, it will provide some of the best offers ever for consumers looking to book a cruise.

“As National Cruise Vacation Month kicks off, there is no better time to leave your snow shovels behind and visit a CLIA-affiliated travel agency to book a cruise,” says James G. Godsman, president of Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the cr uise industry’s marketing and trade association.

First, Godsman points to a unique industry partnership with Visa Gold.

“There are numerous special offers for Visa cardholders who book a cruise with any of 25 cruise partners at a CLIA-affiliated travel agency. They include everything from $100 cabin discounts on selected sailings and complimentary two-category upgrades, to $150 per person shipboard credits, he notes.

Consumers can also participate in this year’s Choose to Cruise” sweepstakes, and vie for one of 110 cruise prizes for two.

Godsman suggests that consumers either stop by a CLIA-affiliated travel agency to fill out a sweepstakes card, or send in one of the entry cards that will be included in the “Choose to Cruises special sections found in the Feb. 12 issue of People ( the p ublication’s Glove Stories of the Century” issue) and February’s issue of Conde Mast Traveler.

The “Choose to Cruise” sweepstakes runs until March 31, 1996. Winners will be selected in a random drawing in April.

Meanwhile, as thousands of travel agencies all over North America become “cruise headquarters” during February, lots more activities are planned. Among them: celebrations by states and cruise ports, and a major media campaign covering 45 broadcast market s from Feb. 5 to 16. Look for CLIA spokespersons on your local TV or radio station!

National Cruise Vacation Month is the cruise industry’s multimillion dollar promotional effort. In the six years since its inception, it has been credited with helping consumers learn more about this increasingly popular vacation.

There are nearly 23,000 CLIA-affiliated travel agencies throughout North America that display the association’s blue, gold and white seal.
