Starting today you don’t need a degree in computer science to bank online. Comerica Incorporated introduced yesterday a new, easy-to-use home banking program called “Comerica Home ATM,” which transfers the universal experience of using an automated teller machine to the consumer’s personal computer.

The primary difference between Comerica Home ATM and other home banking programs is its simplicity — it’s easier to install and use. The guide to get started is only one page. Comerica Home ATM program screens look and work just like a typical ATM that consumers already know how to use. Customers have the ability to quickly and easily review their accounts, retrieve monthly statements, perform balance inquiries, and transfer funds between accounts. Customers can even use Comerica Home ATM to pay bills, using screens that look just like a check.

“Home banking is expected to parallel the exponential growth of PC usage nationwide. It’s predicted that in two years, 13 million U.S. households will be banking online — five times as many people as in 1996,” said Richard G. Lyons, Jr., senior vice president Electronic Banking and Marketplace Technology for Comerica. “We expect thousands of customers will choose Comerica Home ATM as they discover how easy it is to use.”

Comerica currently offers two other PC banking programs to its customers “Quicken” and “Quickbooks.” These programs primarily focus on financial management and planning for individuals and small businesses. Comerica Home ATM was created for an emerging PC banking market — a broader segment of customers who want their banking at home to be simple and convenient.

Monthly service fees for Comerica Home ATM will vary according to region, but will generally range between $5.95 – $7.95. The software is free and customers receive the first 60 days free. Comerica Home ATM is available at no charge to the bank’s Michigan Choice and Premier checking account customers; Pacific Gold customers in California and Choice customers in Texas. Applications to receive the software can be obtained through Comerica branches in Michigan, California and Texas. In addition to Comerica branches, customers also can enroll in Comerica Home ATM by calling 1-800-650-2017 or through Comerica’s web site.
