Gold Points Plus, the electronic shopper loyalty program launched by legendary trading stamp king Curt Carlson, announced Thursday one of the most exciting prize programs ever, featuring a grand prize of “Free Travel for Life” and scores of other prizes to lucky Gold Points Plus card users.
The “Free Travel for Life” program will launch June 1 and run through December 31, 1998. The Grand Prize, to be awarded at the end of the promotion, will provide one free vacation per year for two to exotic travel destinations such as Australia, Europe, China and other locations around the world for the life of the winner.
In addition to the Grand Prize, Gold Points Plus plans monthly drawings for prizes, which will include one of the following trips for two people: a Bahamas cruise, Keystone, Hawaii, Nassau, Punta Cana, Orlando, Las Vegas or a Caribbean cruise. More than 100 other valuable prizes will also be awarded each month.
Enrolled Gold Points Plus cardholders will receive one chance to win for each shopping transaction processed on the card. (NOTE: “Enrolled cardholders” means cardholders who registered their cards with Gold Points Plus when they first received them, either by filling out an enrollment form and returning it to the Gold Points merchant location or via mail. Cardholders may determine if their card is enrolled by calling the Gold Points Plus hotline at 800-508-9000. Cards may be enrolled through this same number. There is no charge for enrollment.)
No purchase is necessary to win the “Free Travel for Life” sweepstakes, and complete rules and details will be available at participating stores or through the Gold Points Plus hotline.
The Gold Points Plus program, launched in January 1997 and currently in test market in the Minneapolis-St. Paul region, has more than 550,000 active card users and 500 merchant locations in the program, including Rainbow Foods and Tires Plus locations through the Twin Cities area and Rochester. Cardholders also earn points for long-distance calls made with MCI.
Utilizing proprietary technology developed by Carlson, the loyalty program instantly registers point totals for purchases made anywhere on its system and prints the user’s total on a point-of-sale receipt. Cardholders may redeem points for a variety of free or discounted merchandise and services through catalog redemption or at participating merchants.
