MBNA and the NFL Quarterback Club announced Wednesday the launch of the ‘NFL Quarterback Club VISA’ credit card program. The new program is an enhancement to MBNA’s NFL VISA credit card program, which began in the fall of 1995 and now has more than 1.2 million cardholders. The ‘Quarterback Club VISA’ offers cardholders a custom-designed color action shot of four marquee players including John Elway of the Denver Broncos, Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers, Barry Sanders of the Detroit Lions, and Steve Young of the San Francisco 49ers. The new card also offers cardholders a chance to win a trip to the annual ‘Quarterback Challenge’, free admission to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, merchandise discounts, and the guaranteed lowest rate for Sports Illustrated subscriptions.
MBNA America Bank, N.A., and the NFL Quarterback Club announced Wednesday the introduction of the NFL Quarterback Club Visa credit card program.
Fans may choose from among a custom-designed color action shot of four marquee players featured in the initial offering: John Elway of the 1998 Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos, Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers, Barry Sanders of the Detroit Lions, and Steve Young of the San Francisco 49ers. The NFL Quarterback Club, created in 1991, promotes group licensing programs with the biggest names in the NFL.
The new program represents a further enhancement to MBNA’s NFL Visa credit card program, which began in the fall of 1995. More than 1.2 million loyal fans have chosen to carry a National Football League credit card featuring the NFL shield or the logo of each NFL team.
“We’re very pleased to be expanding our program with the NFL,” said John Cochran, MBNA Senior Vice Chairman. “This new series of credit cards expands our existing NFL program with the best players of the NFL. The Quarterback Club brings together in one brand four of the most popular and dedicated athletes in all of sports.”
“We believe the NFL Quarterback Club affinity cards will be as successful and popular with fans as the NFL affinity cards have proven to be,” said Gary Gertzog, NFL Properties senior vice president and co-chairman on the NFL Quarterback Club marketing committee.
The NFL Quarterback Club Visa program offers cardholders a chance to win a trip to the annual Quarterback Challenge, free admission to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, merchandise discounts, and the guaranteed lowest rate for Sports Illustrated subscriptions.
The introduction of the NFL “Quarterback Club” Visa credit card program represents another important endorsement of MBNA’s sports marketing sector, which has marketing agreements with many sports leaders, including Cal Ripken Jr., Mario Lemieux and Dale Earnhardt. In addition to the NFL, MBNA’s sports marketing sector includes endorsements from more than 600 sports organizations, including Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), many of the National Basketball Association teams, the PGA of America and the American Quarter Horse Association. MBNA has endorsements in every major sport, including football, baseball, basketball, tennis, hockey, soccer, golf, horse racing, and automobile racing.
MBNA Corporation, a bank holding company and parent of MBNA America Bank, N.A., a national bank, has $52.7 billion in managed loans. MBNA, the largest independent credit card lender in the world, also provides retail deposit, consumer loan, and insurance products.
