NationsBank will offer FANCash cards to Carolina Panther fans again this year. For the 1998 football season, NationsBank and its technology providers, Precis Smart Card Systems, Schlumberger Smart Cards & Terminals, and Verifone Inc., have installed the latest in smart card technology. This will enable fans to purchase drinks, food and merchandise with their FANCash cards faster and in more places at Ericsson Stadium.

This summer, Ericsson Stadium and Carolina Panthers Operations adopted a new inventory and payment system, Tangent, which can accept smart card payments at all its registers. NationsBank then worked with technology partners to install smart card readers and collection systems to complement the change in the stadium’s system. The result is an improved purchasing experience for fans.

“Ericsson Stadium has always taken pride in being a state-of-the-art sports facility,” said Jon Richardson, of the Carolina Panthers. “We are fortunate to have partners like NationsBank that share our vision to be on the cutting edge of technology in order to provide our fans with the most enjoyable experience possible.”

During 1996, NationsBank unveiled the stored value cards, which were marketed as FANtastic Plastic, “FANCash,” and gave patrons an alternative to cash purchases. FANCash cards can be used to replace cash for purchases at the stadium, and in the Panthers Team Store. Fans can use the card until its value is depleted or until expiration.

FANCash cards are available at the Panthers Team Store, NationsBank kiosks throughout Ericsson Stadium, NationsBank banking centers in Charlotte and Rock Hill or by calling 1-800-711-0728. Cards can also be ordered by fax at 757-446-3769 or by mail: FANCash Stored Value Card, P.O. Box 1347, Norfolk, VA 23501-1347.

The 1998 FANCash cards feature six designs preloaded with $10, $20, $25, $50 or $100. The four cards which make up the FANCash Puzzle Card Set feature Sean Gilbert, Fred Lane, Michael Barrow and Panthers mascot Sir Purr. The two cards which complete the 1998 offering feature the Panthers Logo and the Charlotte Skyline.

“We are excited to partner with the Carolina Panthers to bring this leading edge technology to Ericsson Stadium,” said Terri Hayden, NationsBank Stored Value manager. “This year’s FANCash program offers us a great opportunity to enhance the game day experience for the Carolina Panthers fans by providing them with faster, more convenient means of making purchases at the Stadium.”

“The PrecisCache system is a cost efficient smart card system and enjoys a proven track record in the stadium/arena market,” said Jim Lout, president and CEO, Precis Smart Card Systems. “We are pleased that NationsBank sought our expertise to replace the previously implemented system for the Carolina Panthers.”

“Schlumberger has long recognized that smart card acceptance in the United States can be moved forward by demonstrating the benefits of added convenience and innovative services to specific communities of users, such as stadium fans,” stated Paul Beverly, vice president, marketing Schlumberger Smart Cards & Terminals, North America. “NationsBank is one of the financial institutions leading this market development, and Schlumberger is pleased to be supporting them in the Panthers project.”

“We are very pleased to be involved with the impressive demonstration of smart card solutions at Ericsson Stadium, and we believe the reliability and flexibility of the VeriFone solutions will be critical as this project expands throughout the stadium,” said Nerino Mayer, business development manager for smart cards, VeriFone, Inc.
