First USA and the international relief and development organization Save the Children rolled-out the ‘Save the Children Platinum MasterCard’ Monday. The affinity program will generate donations for the non-profit organization based on charge volume. The no-annual-fee card offers applicants three unique card designs: “Children of the United States”; “Helping Children and Families Around the World”; and “My Town”. Each design was created by a child and selected by a panel of judges for the annual Save the Children Art Contest. Since Save the Children will not directly promote the new card, First USA will run a direct mail campaign and advertise on several websites, including iVillage.com; Parentsoup.com; and Parentsplace.com. Meanwhile, MasterCard International will join Save the Children and First USA to sponsor the Save the Children Art Contest for this year, with the winning artwork to be featured on a future ‘First USA Save the Children MasterCard’.
Save the Children, a leading international relief and development organization, and First USA, one of the nation’s leading credit card issuers, Monday announced the Save the Children Platinum MasterCard card. It is a new way for people across the country to help support programs and initiatives designed to help children here in the United States and around the world.
“Everyone associated with Save the Children is delighted that First USA has partnered with Save the Children to issue an affinity credit card,” said Charles McCormack, president of Save the Children. “This alliance with First USA is a great opportunity to offer a convenient, everyday way to help us help others, and we look forward to a long relationship.”
“We at First USA are excited by this new partnership,” said William V. Nutting, executive vice president, partnership marketing, First USA. “We have an opportunity to offer a compelling consumer product with low pricing, quality customer service and customized cards, while at the same time supporting the tremendously important programs of Save the Children through the card’s usage. It is a winning proposition for everyone.”
The no-annual-fee card offers applicants three unique card designs: Children of the United States; Helping Children and Families Around the World; and My Town. Each design was created by a child and selected by a panel of judges during a Save the Children Art Contest. This year’s Save the Children Art Contest, which runs through Nov. 30, 1998, is conducted nationally. The winning artwork will be added to the designs offered in next year’s Save the Children MasterCard card program. Applications for the Save the Children MasterCard card will be available through direct mail and a toll-free number (888/305-4016), and via several websites, including iVillage.com; Parentsoup.com; and Parentsplace.com.
Cardmembers receive exclusive Platinum privileges, including automatic purchase protection, exceptional travel-accident insurance, emergency cash and airline-ticket replacement, auto-rental collision coverage, and lost luggage protection. The card features a credit line up to $100,000; a money-saving balance-transfer option; and 24-hour, toll-free customer-service support.
Save the Children Announce Art Contest
Save the Children and First USA also announced yesterday the Save the Children Art Contest, benefiting disadvantaged children and families. First USA and MasterCard International are sponsoring the contest, which encourages children to express their creativity and uniqueness through art, while at the same time helping Save the Children generate interest and support for its numerous programs.
The contest encourages children, 18 years of age and younger, to participate by creating and submitting an original art design using one of four themes: Dream Vacation; Trip to the Mall; What I Want to Be When I Grow up; or My Favorite Class. The winner will receive a $500 U.S. Savings Bond and $500 worth of Save the Children merchandise. A $1,000 MasterCard cash card will be extended to the winner’s parent/guardian. The winning artwork will be featured on an upcoming First USA Save the Children MasterCard, with the potential of being featured on other products that help support Save the Children and its programs.
“First USA is proud to be involved with an organization like Save the Children,” said William V. Nutting, executive vice president, partnership marketing, First USA. “Whether it’s through the new First USA Save the Children MasterCard or through support of the group’s Art Contest, we are glad to be able to help support an organization that is committed to the well-being of children and their families around the world.”
“MasterCard’s philanthropy program is dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged youths, and, as such, we are proud to team with First USA to demonstrate our support for Save the Children,” said William I. Jacobs, executive vice president, global resources, MasterCard International. “We’re hopeful this initiative will create awareness of poverty and conflict, as well as the important work of Save the Children.”
“The Save the Children Art Contests and the resulting use of the winning artwork are a wonderful introduction for many people to Save the Children and our work here in the United States and around the world,” said Charles McCormack, president of Save the Children. “The resulting artwork is a continuing gift from the young artists to the children reached by our programs.”
