Mobil Corporation announced that over two million Americans are now using its revolutionary Mobil Speedpass technology that allows customers to fill up without ever opening wallets or purses for credit cards or cash. To celebrate the program’s success, Mobil recognized Thomas Ashwill of Ft. Myers, Florida, the two millionth Speedpass enrollee, in a special ceremony at his local Mobil station. Mr. Ashwill received $1000 to be used for gasoline purchases along with other gifts of appreciation from the company. Mr. Ashwill has two Speedpass transponders, which he uses for both personal and business purchases. The Speedpass program has now expanded to over 3,500 stations in the U.S.. Motorists enrolled in the Mobil Speedpass program use a miniature electronic device attached to their key chain or affixed to their rear window.
The electronic system located in the pump “talks” (communicates) with these miniature transponder devices. Together, these electronic devices provide quick, simple access to gasoline by automatically charging fuel purchases to a designated credit card. Customers can designate any of the wide range of credit cards that Mobil accepts when they enroll in the Speedpass program. There is no cost to consumers for the Speedpass transponder and no service charge for using the new technology to fill up.
Drivers must enroll to acquire a free Speedpass transponder tag, and there are several easy ways to enroll: Toll free by phone at 877-MY MOBIL; Through the Mobil Speedpass Web site at http://www.mobil.com/speedpass By completing an enrollment form available at any participating Mobil service station.
