The Bravo Card Lauch An Association With Tony Bennett

The BRAVO(SM) Card today launched an association with Grammy Award-winning artist Tony Bennett to sponsor his current “Here’s to the Ladies” concert tour. One of the tour stops includes Pittsburgh, where the BRAVO(SM) Card, a credit recently introduced by NOVUS Services, will present Tony Bennett in concert on March 26 at Heinz Hall. The BRAVO(SM) Card is sponsoring Bennett in 41 stops of his 1996-97 “Here’s to the Ladies” national concert tour.

Through both a donation of $1 from each concert ticket sold on this tour and proceeds from a summer benefit in Chicago, the BRAVO Card has committed to a total contribution of $100,000 to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation “Tony Bennett Diabetes Research Fund,” which was established last year honoring the singer’s long-time support of the organization, and to local chapters of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International. The fund, totaling more than $1.5 million to date, provides major support to JDF- funded researchers and helps to advance the most promising diabetes research throughout the world.

“The BRAVO Card is proud to present Tony Bennett’s concert tour. Tony’s classic style and optimistic spirit are the perfect fit with the BRAVO Card’s theme of realizing your dreams because, to quote our own advertising, ‘Life Won’t Wait,'” said Thomas R. Butler, president of NOVUS Services, Inc., a business unit of Dean Witter, Discover & Co. Butler also noted that part of the Bravo Card philosophy includes supporting cause-related organizations, such as JDF, on behalf of its cardmembers.

“I applaud the BRAVO Card for its commitment to raise $100,000 for JDF, a cause that I have a strong interest in supporting,” said Tony Bennett. “This is a win-win situation in that concert goers are contributing to JDF research and BRAVO is making a difference in the local chapters across the U.S. by aligning with our tour.”

As part of this fundraising effort, the BRAVO Card is hosting a private reception for Tony Bennett, local JDF representatives and sponsors immediately following the concert in Pittsburgh.

The BRAVO Card, a general purpose credit card introduced by NOVUS Services in the Fall of 1995, will have two separate credit lines: the primary credit line, called the “Active Line,” which is accessed by the card; and a second, “Reserve Line,” which is for purchases of $250 or more and is accessed by special, no-fee checks.

To further enhance its brand awareness, the BRAVO Card television commercials feature the distinctive voice of Tony Bennett singing from his classic repertoire.

On Tony Bennett’s current recording, HERE’S TO THE LADIES, the singer pays tribute to his sources of inspiration, some of the greatest female musical artists of all time, from Barbara Streisand and Ella Fitzgerald, to Judy Garland and Billie Holiday. Over the past five years, Bennett has sold more than three million records worldwide. He entered his fifth decade in popular music by releasing an album version of his highly-acclaimed “MTV Unplugged” session, TONY BENNETT-MTV UNPLUGGED. The album won the 1995 Grammy Award for “Album of the Year” as well as “Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance,” bringing Bennett’s lifetime Grammy total up to six.

The BRAVO Card, issued by a business unit of Dean Witter, Discover & Co., is a general purpose credit card which is accepted nationwide wherever the NOVUS sign is displayed. NOVUS Services, a business unit of Dean Witter, Discover & Co., is the operating company for the NOVUS Network and all NOVUS card brands including the Discover Card, the Private Issue Card and the BRAVO Card.
