Customers can now say “Charge It” at 49 Utah Post Offices, U.S. Postal Service officials announced.
On its way to becoming the single largest retailer in the world to accept credit and debit cards, the Postal Service is modernizing the way it does business to afford more convenience to its customers.
“This is a massive undertaking for the Postal Service, but the result will be a more convenient, pleasant experience for everyone who comes to do business at the post office,” said Salt Lake City Postal District Manager Stephen Johnson.
By the end of 1997, the Postal Service will accept credit and debit cards at approximately 30,000 locations across the country, making it the single largest retailer to accept the cards.
Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover cards will be accepted for most purchases at postal retail windows.
The remainder of Utah post offices are scheduled to accept credit/debit cards beginning in March of 1997. Post offices in the following Utah communities now accept credit/debit cards:
Salt Lake City Park City American Fork Pleasant Grove Bountiful Price Brigham City Provo Cedar City Riverton Clearfield Roy Hill Air Force Base St. George Kaysville Sandy Layton Spanish Fork Logan Springville Magna Tooele Midvale Vernal North Salt Lake West Jordan Ogden Woods Cross Orem
