No-Annual-Fee L.L. Bean VISA Card

L.L. Bean and MBNA America Bank, N.A., have joined forces to launch the new L.L. Bean Outdoor Advantage Program(TM), the centerpiece of which is the new no-annual-fee L.L. Bean Visa credit card. Customers can take advantage of the unique Outdoor Advantage Program benefits that are backed by the heritage and tradition of Maine values. L.L Bean, Headquartered in Freeport, Maine, is the world’s largest outdoor specialty cataloger. The Northeast regional headquarters for MBNA, the world’s second largest lender through bank credit cards, is based in Camden, Maine.

Outdoor Advantage Program benefits that distinguish the Bean Visa include:

Free Regular FedEx shipping on L.L. Bean orders in the contiguous United States when you use the card
Special notice of sale-priced L.L. Bean merchandise
In addition, cardholders will be able to enroll in special L.L Bean Outdoor Discovery Schools designed exclusively for Outdoor Advantage Program members. L.L Bean has been teaching the public how to enjoy fly-fishing, cross-country skiing, cycling, hiking and other outdoor activities for more than 15 years.
“The L.L. Bean Outdoor Advantage Program is an important step in our efforts to offer customers world-class service. We are pleased to offer them a new way to enjoy the outdoors and save money at L.L. Bean,” says Leon Gorman, president of L.L. Bean. “We are particularly proud to be offering the card in partnership with A neighbor right here in Maine, MBNA America Bank. MBNA and L.L Bean share a commitment to giving customers exceptional value and service. We look forward to working together.”

A principal benefit of the L.L. Bean Visa card is that it will allow cardholders to earn points through purchases made on the card at any of more than 12 million locations worldwide that accept Visa, including L.L. Bean itself. Points can be used toward savings on future purchases of L.L. Bean products or services and, if desired, to support the Student Conservation Association, a national nonprofit organization that directs volunteer efforts toward the preservation of wildlands at risk.

“MBNA and L.L. Bean both recognize that success depends on getting the right Customers and keeping them — and both of us do that by offering Customers a good product at a fair price and then providing them with exceptional service,” said MBNA America Vice Chairman and Chief Marketing Officer John R. Cochran. “We expect this to be a very successful program.”

Outdoor Advantage Program members will receive numerous additional benefits, including an introductory 5.9% annual percentage rate for six months, a fraud protection program, cash access at more than 240,000 financial institutions around the world, travel accident insurance, emergency cash and airline tickets, supplemental auto rental collision coverage and credit-card cash-advance checks. The card also is available in a Gold version offering higher credit lines and insurance coverage, a one-year warranty-doubling service, additional collision coverage and an available year-end summary of charges.
