Consumer Payment Card News

Love — and money — are in the air this spring with several all-new retail promotions from GTE Card Services, including a $10,000 “Cash in the Cards” sweepstakes beginning May 13 and special discounts on long-distance calls during upcoming major call holidays.
“Our spring and summer promotions are part of our ongoing commitment to drive business into our retail partners’ stores, and also to give consumers an added incentive to use prepaid phone cards especially during the busy calling seasons,” said Craig Ryason, vice president – marketing, GTE Card Service.

In the “Cash in the Cards” sweepstakes, prizes include the $10,000 cash grand prize, 200 prizes of $50 cash, 500 prizes of 30 minutes free domestic long distance calls, and 11,804 prizes of five minutes free long distance. The “Cash in the Cards” promotion is supported by in-store point-of-purchase material provided by GTE Card Services.

The company also offers a one-day, 50 percent discount on all domestic and international long distance calls using the GTE Prepaid Phone Card on Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and other seasonal family holidays.

Easy to Play
According to Tyason, the “Cash in Cards” sweepstakes is easy for consumers to play. Each GTE Prepaid Phone Card contains an account number. Consumers call in and enter their account number to determine if they are a prize winner. Customers not buying a phone card may enter the sweepstakes by mail. Details are available in participating stores. The sweepstake ends June 17, 1996.

“In-store promotions can increase store volume tremendously, evidenced by the success of our efforts last fall for the ‘Let’s Talk Football’ promotion,” said Steve Swisher, Advertising and Sales Promotion manager for E-Z Serve Stores. “Not all prepaid phone card programs can claim to offer both the high-quality service and promotional support that GTE Card Services delivers.”
