First USA announced that it is giving Americans a unique opportunity to salute Team USA — the Platinum Visa Nagano 1998 Collection credit cards.

The collection features a variety of commemorative limited edition designs, some of which celebrate past U.S. golden Olympic moments. Visa will also make a donation to Team U.S.A. for each purchase made with the cards through the year 2000 as part of its Pull for the Team program.

Upon activation of the card, Cardmembers receive two Olympic collectibles — a baseball cap and a lapel pin — both ideal gifts with which to participate in the pin-trading tradition of the modern Olympic Games.

The Olympic Committee awarded grants totaling over $29 million in direct aid to athletes during the four-year period leading up to the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

“This new program card is a great way for Americans to show the world their support for our Olympic athletes while at the same time benefiting from the use of a product of superior value,” said Gary Marino, executive vice president, marketing, First USA. “Cardmembers can take heart in the fact that each time they use the card, they are helping U.S. Olympians bring home the gold.”

The Platinum Visa Nagano 1998 collection offers a choice of 13 limited edition designs that commemorate the spirit, sports, progress and history of the Olympic Games, including

— the Team Action Series, which offers a choice of colorful action images from six different winter games (downhill skiing, freestyle skiing, ski jumping, bobsledding, figure skating, and speed skating);

— the New Events Series enables Cardmembers to show support for the progress of the Olympic games. The series depicts the two new winter events for 1998 — snowboarding and women’s hockey;

— the Historic Moments Series, which features images of gold-medal performances from past U.S. Olympic heroes; Phil Mahre (Skiing 1976, ’80, ’84); 1980 US Hockey Team “Miracle on Ice;” and Bonnie Blair (Speed Skating 1988, ’92, ’94);

— the Spirit of Nagano Series, which provides a limited edition reminder of the 1998 Winter Olympic Games’ host city and its place in history as the final site of the Olympic Winter Games of the 20th Century. Two card designs are available. The first displays the Snowflower Emblem, which serves as a beautiful and enduring symbol for the XVIII Olympic Games; the second design is home to the four Snowlet Owls mascot that represents the quadrennial cycle of the Games.

The Platinum Visa Nagano 1998 collection offers Cardmembers a low introductory APR of 4.9% for five months, followed by a 12.99% fixed APR thereafter. Catalogues featuring card designs and an application will be sent via direct mail. Applications are also available through a special toll-free number (800/300-8997).
