Free Shipping

A national survey conducted by First USA found that 88% of Americans would do more shopping by catalog if they could obtain free shipping and handling. This year Americans get their wish.

This holiday season, First USA (www.firstusa.com) will offer a program to its cardholders called The Card That Ships It For Free. The free shipping offer is available to all First USA and Bank One Cardmembers. Consumers can select from 16 different catalogs, including JCPenney Best Gifts catalog, Omaha Steaks, The Company Store, Harolds and Orvis, through December 31, 1998.

The First USA survey found that 47% of consumers are expected to shop for their gifts by catalog this year, and that a majority of those shoppers consider shipping and handling fees to be an important aspect in this decision. In 1998, Americans will spend more than $87 billion dollars in catalog purchases, according to the Direct Marketing Associations Shop-At-Home Information Center.

Some restrictions apply to the new card: appropriate purchase codes must be used; it covers only standard delivery; shipping upgrades are at the customers expense; and orders shipped outside the 48 contiguous United States may have a surcharge.
