Automated teller machines will never be the same. Last week ATM giant Diebold showcased a new jukebox ATM in New Orleans. The cutting edge system uses MP3 technology and the latest cash dispenser technology. Users simply insert cash or transfer funds to play songs. The concept terminal uses Diebold’s OPTinet software to play tracks using MP3 technology and a J/XFS software standard. For the retailer a color graphic display provides an opportunity to generate revenue through advertisements, as well as reinforce brand messages. Additionally, the display offers a space in which to promote local bands, cater to local events and even customize music selections to a retailer’s customer base. ATMs displaying video and talking ATMs are already sweeping the country. Following this year’s US election fiasco ATMs may evolve into voting machines too.
