Fiscal Education

It appears that America’s students learn about “dollars & cents” the same way they learn about the “birds & bees.” While the overwhelming majority say they have learned on their own, more than half of collegians, and 43% of high school students, claim to have learned something about money management through talking with friends. Interestingly, a new survey by Capital One has found that more than 70% of college students surveyed say their parents have not given them tips or advice about spending wisely while shopping for school supplies. Even though it appears that parents have largely failed in the fiscal education of the children, 87% of college students and 90% of high school students told researchers they rely on their parents for financial guidance.
