Fast Food & Cards

U.S. consumers racked up an estimated $51 billion worth of fast food on their personal credit and debit cards in 2006, compared to $33.2 billion one-year ago. The increase is driven by merchant expansion, promotion of card usage and new contactless cards. McDonald’s increased payment credit acceptance from 3,000 locations in 2004 to 13,000 in 2005. McDonald’s has also geared up for contactless payments. The average fast food credit card ticket, based on the most recent VISA data, is $11.15.
