The estimated number of direct mailings sent from banking, credit card, investment, and mortgage and loan companies fell 10% in the first three months of this year. Among financial services companies, credit card issuers cut back on direct mail the most. Mail volume for credit cards fell 14% from during the same period from 3.0 billion offers to 2.6 billion. According to Mintel Comperemedia financial services direct mail volume at 4.2 billion for 1Q/08 was 13% lower than the 4.8 billion estimated for the year ago quarter. Three of 2007’s top five credit card mailers including Chase, Bank of America and HSBC reduced their direct mail by over 15% during 1Q/08.
