Discover Card has joined a nationwide initiative encouraging the public to join together in the fight against hunger, a problem affecting one in eight Americans, according to the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Walmart’s “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” encourages people to spread the word and engage with others using the hashtag #FightHunger on their social media channels. Additionally, shoppers have the option to donate to their local Feeding America food bank at the register during checkout at Walmart.
The campaign will offer a number of ways to take action against hunger and help a local Feeding America food bank, one of which is by making a purchase on a Discover card at U.S. Walmart stores, Walmart.com or with WalmartPay from April 17-May 15, 2017.
For every one of those Discover card purchases, Discover will donate the equivalent of one meal ($0.09) to Feeding America, a United States -based nonprofit organization, and its network of member food banks, up to $1 million or enough for 100 million meals.
Discover is the first and only financial services company involved in the campaign and joins some of the nation’s leading food companies including Campbell Soup Company, General Mills, Kellogg Company, the Kraft Heinz Company and PepsiCo, in the effort.
Serving in local communities is a value embedded in Discover’s Corporate Responsibility program. Discover employees throughout the country support their local food banks every year through food drives and volunteerism. In addition, Discover supports those food banks with funding to help them provide support to local families.
