Hello, my name is Joshua Jackson. Juneteenth is one of the least celebrated holidays in the United States. Now everyone is talking about and promoting Juneteenth and now you see it on commercials. Sometimes I find it funny how white people don’t recognize Martin Luther King Day unless it’s a day off. I remember one day it was Martin Luther King Day at my old school and nobody acknowledged that it was Martin Luther King Day. Sometimes I feel like people are getting paid to say this stuff because if they didn’t care about black holidays what makes this one so special. In my opinion Juneteenth isn’t really important to me because I have no family who lives in Texas that I know of. In my opinion Juneteenth is important for those slaves who were freed in Texas but why not all the slaves who were freed from other states. For white people, I would say most of our holidays are days off for them.
Holidays that I feel most people can relate to are holidays such as Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas, Halloween, and the Fourth of July. Thanksgiving I feel like everyone loves to take a break from work or school and spend time with family. Easter I would say for people who are religious this is important because this is when Jesus rose from the dead. Christmas I feel like people are more focused on presents and Santa Claus versus the birth of Jesus Christ. When I was younger I really didn’t focus on the true meaning of Christmas except presents. When I got older I started to care more about hanging out with family more and started to feel like the true meaning of Christmas is family. Halloween I feel like people can dress however they want to be dressed without having to be judged and plus getting free candy. Personally I don’t trust candy from other people so I would honestly just buy my own cause someone could have poisoned it you never know. Fourth of July is so much fun you get to have a BBQ and really good food, and having fun popping fireworks with family. Well, whoever reads this I hope you have a great summer and do lots of fun things and most importantly stay positive.
