Bankruptcy filings for the twelve-month period ending September 30th again hit an all-time high of 1.66 million, a 7.4% increase over the same period in 2002. Chapter 7 filings hit 1.18 million and Chapter 13 filings approached 500,000 over the past twelve months. According to the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, the total number of bankruptcy filings during the third quarter were 412,989, a 2.9% increase over 3Q/02. The 3Q/03 data were the second highest level of quarterly filings. During the second quarter a total of 440,257 filings were made.
