With “Tax Day” coming up next week, keep in mind that you have the option of charging your balance-due taxes on all major credit cards. This year, the IRS and 22 states and Washington, DC offer taxpayers the credit card option. Official Payments Corporation is the official provider of these services. You can handle the transaction over the Internet or on the phone using a VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express card. The credit card option is available to all taxpayers including paper filers, electronic filers, those who use tax-preparation software, and those whose returns are prepared by accountants and tax professionals. There is a convenience fee charged to use the service that runs about 2.5% of the transaction. However, the fee can be offset by rewards offered on some major credit cards.
