With the holiday season rapidly approaching, many consumers will begin buying gifts. However, according to American Express, 11 percent of consumers reported that they returned gifts received during the holidays last year.
This year American Express is offering its cardmembers the Return Protection Plan (+) (800-297-8019), a benefit that refunds consumers for items purchased with a Platinum Card, a Gold Card, or an Optima Platinum Card, within 90 days from the date of purchase, if the store wont accept returns. American Express will refund the cardmembers account up to $300 per item, up to $1000 per year.
In addition to the Return Protection Plan (+), American Express offers other benefits and services to make life easier for its cardmembers:
Purchase Protection Plan covering charged items against accidental damage and theft for 90 days from the date of purchase, up to $1000 per occurrence (800-322-1277);
Buyers Assurance Plan extending the original manufacturers warranty up to one additional year on US warranties of 5 years or less, with coverage limited to covered products of $10,000 or less (800-225-3750);
Best Value assuring Gold and Platinum cardmembers that if they see a covered item advertised in print for less, within 60 days of the purchase date, they will receive a refund of the difference to their account, up to $250 per item, $1000 per year (800-557-8317);
